They say that when you are struggling to fall asleep, instead of counting sheep, you should count your blessings. In a fast, paced society it is really easy to get caught up in the 'stuff' and forget about all the good things in life. We all watch the same sunset (insert nerdy literary allusion) but how many times do you actually stop what you are doing and really watch it, appreciate its warmth and beauty and realise that someone, somewhere else in the world, might be watching it also.

There are many things I have yet to learn in life. And many things I wish I was better at. But something I think I ace is gratitude. As much as I can, I try to appreciate the things, people and experiences in my life because whether good or bad they have all helped me to grow and become the person I am today. Sometimes I like to say these things out loud, other times its a phone call to someone special and every now and again I write them down. I believe that writing down the things that you are grateful for is important. On those days where shit seems to hit the fan and you find yourself saying "My life is so crap" or "everything bad happens to me" you can take a moment to check out that list, realise that your being hyperbolic and try to see things from a different perspective.

Being a Gemini, I tend to feel things extremely. When I'm happy it's contagious and when I'm sad, it's downright depressing. So keeping in a healthy frame of mind is important. Sure, at times it does seems that all your troubles come at once but in those moments life will throw you little wins to remind you to keep on keeping on. I recently bought two books, "The 52 lists Project' and "The 52 lists for Happiness' to help me to set goals, appreciate the small things and see my dreams come true. I hope I never get to a point where I forget about all the people who love and care about me. And I hope that I remember to more often tell them how much I appreciate them.
