Creating a magical morning routine to transform my day!

For me, having a routine is so important. If my morning especially, doesn't go to plan or I feel sluggish and unmotivated, it really sets a tone for the rest of the day. Lately, I've been feeling in a rut and not super productive. The demands of work and the cold, dark weather probably have something to do with this. In the summer school holidays I felt super healthy and like everyday was a win- having my morning routine be on point probably had a lot to do with this.

I live for a good makeover, so I'm setting myself a challenge, to makeover my mornings. Because I'm usually down the coast during the week, I'm only going to set this for the weekends as doing certain things at my parents house is neither practical nor desirable.

Rise and shine

I want to wake-up on the weekends before 8am. Between 7-7.30am would be a desirable time. This allows me enough time to feel well-rested and sleep-in without feeling like I'm wasting the day. I'm certainly not one of those people who feel the need to wake up at 5am to feel productive. I find that however much time I have to do something, it will take that long. So giving myself more time will probably not result in me getting more done but rather, me getting more resentful for having to wake up in the dark.

Fuel

I always eat a healthy breakfast on the weekends- so that's not a problem. What is a problem, is coffee.

I love coffee.

I love the taste, the smell and the feel.

But I often wake up dehydrated and know for a fact that I don't drink enough water during the day. So starting my morning with coffee and then going back for a second round is not healthy. The change that I want to make is drinking a big glass of water first thing. I have started doing this but really want to cement it as a habit. If I'm set on having two coffees in the morning- the second one has to be decaf. Ideally, I'd like to slowly start moving away from caffeine altogether and only drink decaf.

Stretch

I love the idea of being a Yogi and actually spent everyday of January practicing yoga. Since going back to school I've still been able to get in a yoga session at least once a week and this usually picks up in the school holidays. I felt fantastic when I was practicing yoga for at least 10 minutes first thing in the morning- it really set the tone for the rest of the day, allowed my body to warm up prior to the gym and increased my sense of patience and mindfulness.

My aim is to spend time every weekend practicing yoga. Sometimes I feel like I can't be bothered, but I know that my body is going to thank me for it afterwards.

Be inspired

I spend a lot of time watching YouTube videos- particularly in the mornings when I'm getting ready. And while these videos are often interesting or engaging, I think it would be a better use of my time to listen to podcasts while I'm eating breakfast and getting ready for the day. Some of my faves include: Goal Digger, Rise and Rise Together, Rise and Conquer and Coffee Talks by Kalyn Nicholson. I feel like this would be a better opportunity to learn something new and start my morning on a positive note.

So those are the four things I intend on creating as inspiring morning habits to ensure I'm kicking butt in 2019- what are yours?

Make sure you check out some of my routines over on YouTube for more motivation and inspiration.
