If you haven’t picked up from the fact that this blog is the third in the series, I’m kinda obsessed with the notion of becoming a Girlboss. In a previous post I talked about how, becoming a Girlboss may not literally mean becoming a BOSS (i.e.. Someone who runs a business and employs other people) but rather, having the confidence, creativity and sass to live your best life and conquer your goals.

If you haven’t already, make sure you read my other Girlboss posts.

In this post, I wanted to outline some of the habits that are vital to ensure you level up in life while maintaining your nice-girl status, because, let’s face it, unfortunately throughout recent history, women who have the balls to ‘get shit done’ in their lives have been unfairly portrayed as being bitchy. And while this post is not about gender stereotypes or feminism (I’m not equipped to tackle those subjects) it’s important to recognise that despite media portrayal, being a boss lady and absolutely killing it, does not mean being a bitch.

So if you’re a woman who wants to be the best version of herself, keep reading to check out some of the habits I believe are necessary to create the ultimate Girlboss.

Habit #1 Say what you mean and mean what you say

The ultimate Girlboss always blends honesty and politeness to say what she means. Being vague is not going to get you anywhere. It's time to figure out what you want in life and actually put it out there in a real way. These days we see so many politicians who, for the sake of diplomacy skirt around the issue and make really vague statements. There is something powerful and confident about a woman who is able to articulate themselves in a thoughtful and considerate way that enables them to get their point across in a polite fashion.

Say what you mean.

But also mean what you say.

Be a woman of your word. If you say something, commit to it. No one likes a flake (sorry). I have this friend-ish...who is a great person. I really admire her creativity, inner peace and kindness, BUT she is a flake! I can't rely on her to be where she says she is going to be, reply to my messages or turn up for pre-arranged dates.

Mean what you say.

Habit #2 Be organised

Maybe this is just me, but being organised is essential in achieving your goals, being reliable and getting your shit together. Being organised means using your time effectively.

If this is a challenge for you, perhaps start integrating to-do lists, weekly planners or the Pomodoro method.

Being organised also means being consistent. This relates to the previous habit. Be consistent with work, friends, family and your health and wellbeing. The only way to achieve real results is to commit to it consistently over time.

Finally, being organised also means being punctual. Show up on time for your job and for events. A disorganised life equals a disorganised mind. If you start orgainsing the stuff around you, it is likely that you will begin to feel more inner peace and a greater sense of achievement.

Habit #3 Celebrate all success

Celebrate your own success whether big or small. Sometimes you need to give yourself a pat on the back for the small wins. Cleaned the house- celebrate it. Had a great day- celebrate it. Got a new job- celebrate it. Not every day is going to be epic, goal achieving material. Be grateful for the little things.

Celebrate the success of others. True Girlbosses aren't just after the spotlight, they understand the importance of working as a team. When the team wins, we all win.

Habit #4 Don't be afraid of hard work

Girlbosses aren't afraid of hard work! I love the quote 'Nothing truly good is ever easy' and I have certainly found it to be true in my own life. When it comes to your own wellbeing, sometimes the words 'good enough' are allowed to come out of your mouth, however, if you want something bad enough in life, they shouldn't form part of your everyday vocabulary. The trick, is being able to know when it's ok to pull the 'good enough' card. Sometimes 'done' is better than 'perfect'.

Hard work sometimes means showing up early and staying back late. Although, if you have cultivated Habit #2 and are able to organise and use your time effectively, sometimes this may not be necessary. Finally, even though you are working hard, patience is still necessary. Just like the Loreal ad, "It won't happen over night, but it will happen".

Habit #5 Believe in yourself

Confidence is beautiful. But I'm the first to admit that I don't have it all the time. In these instances, It's ok to employ the 'fake it till you make it' strategy because as YouTuber Sarah's Day says, "Act confident and no one will question you". We are all just trying to figure out who we are and what we want, it's ok to not feel like you are a superstar. But trust me, put on a brave face and no one will know the difference.

And chances are, they are probably doing the same.

Believe that you are awesome, that you are one of a kind and capable of anything. Know your worth. Other people will start to think the same.

Habit #6 Have a clear vision

Have a vision for your future. Set goals and stick to them. But also have a vision and idea about WHO you are. Don't try to let people change you or convince you that you are or should be someone else.

Admittedly, I'm still working on habits 1, 3 and 5. But maybe being a Girlboss also means being vulnerable, always being a learner and being brave enough to let others know that you aren't perfect but that you are working on your best YOU and on living your best LIFE.

I hope you enjoyed this Girlboss blog. Comment below a Girlboss habit you are integrating into your own life and don't forget to follow me on social media- YouTube Carly Morton and Instagram @evolveliving_blog
