FIVE Skincare Mistakes I've Made

I've always cared about my skin.

But really, I never knew what that actually looked like. So perhaps I only thought that I cared for my skin, all the while, doing whatever the hell I wanted...

Natural Skincare

1. Not drinking enough water

We are supposed to drink something like eight glasses of water a day. On a regular day, I might drink three. It's not because I don't like the taste or because I can't be bothered. Often it's because I just forget. I'm usually so busy rushing around doing things that having a drink completely slips my mind.

Other times, I realise I'm thirsty and know that my body itself has probably been dehydrated for hours. And sometimes when I'm at work, I purposely don't drink water during specific periods of time, because I know that I'll be busy and won't be able to duck off to the bathroom if I need to (is that TMI?)

Drink yo water!

2. Not wearing sunblock

I have always HATED my freckles. But never wanted to wear sunblock on my face. It made it all greasy and smell weird.

Thankfully, many moisturisers and foundations contain SPF. Even if it's not super high protection, at least it's something. Not only does the sun give you freckles, but it also reduces the elasticity of your skin making you look older.

3. Not washing my face

You know when you get home late, are tired and literally cannot be bothered washing off your make-up? Yep, that's been me on more than one occasion. Nighttime, is when your skin does most of its healing so it's important to have it free of grime. Not to mention that all that make-up seriously clogs your pores.

Now, I make sure I wash my face before bed. Even if I'm tired. Even if I'm cold. Even if I can't be bothered.

In saying this, I once thought that I could wash away acne...you can't.

4. Not checking the ingredients

Up until I was about twenty-four, I bought whatever was the cheapest, or the best smelling, or the best known brand in terms of skincare. I didn't check the ingredients. I didn't even know that I should.

Now that I have started educating myself when it comes to natural and safe skincare, my entire stock has changed. I don't buy big name brands. I look on the back of labels. And I feel better about what I use.

5. You are what you eat

Food is medicine. For supple, dewy, glowing skin don't spend a fortune on serums and other junk. Instead, eat well.

Nurture your body from the inside out.

I never ate too bad growing up. But now that I'm more health conscious, my body AND my skin is thanking me for it. This also helps with that pesky acne mentioned in number three. Having a diet rich in hormone balancing foods may greatly assist in reducing blemishes.
